Christian Gottlob Neefe (1748–1798) was a German composer, conductor, and pianist, known primarily for his contributions to classical music during the late 18th century. He is often associated with the early Romantic period and the transition from the Baroque to the Classical style. Neefe is perhaps best known for his role as a mentor to Ludwig van Beethoven, whom he taught in his youth. One of his notable works is the opera "Ariadne auf Naxos," which was composed in 1790. He also wrote various keyboard sonatas and chamber music, reflecting the stylistic developments of his time. Although Neefe's output is not as widely recognized as that of some of his contemporaries, his influence as a teacher and composer helped to shape the musical landscape of his era. He was instrumental in promoting the works of Beethoven and contributed to the development of German opera. His work laid some groundwork for the evolution of Romantic music in the 19th century.
